Harmonix, creadores originales de Guitar Hero y también, una vez desvinculados de éste, de Rock Band, han comentado en el blog oficial de Rock Band 3 que con la tercera entrega de su saga musical planean revolucionar el género y hacer "el juego musical definitivo".

En el blog de desarrollo del juego, sin desvelar detalles concretos, los desarrolladores han prometido "nuevas experiencias revolucionarias" y grandes modos de juego para el que esperan que sea "el próximo gran salto en los juegos musicales".

Con lanzamiento previsto para 2011 en PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 y Wii, Rock Band 3 será mostrado por primera vez en la feria de videojuegos E3.

Modos de Juego

PRÁCTICA: El modo Práctica contiene lecciones de música diseñadas por los músicos de Harmonix (unas 60-80 canciones), y está especialmente diseñado para la guitarra/bajo PRO, así como para cada canción de RB3 que utilice teclado. Este modo es un sistema totalmente interactivo que te enseña, paso a paso, los puntos más destacados para tocar tanto un instrumento real como uno de plástico. A un lado de la pantalla del Entrenador, hay pequeñas anotaciones que te dirán cómo las notas que tocas se corresponden a tal nota real, o si es un tono o un semitono. No hay niveles de dificultad en este modo, por lo que las lecciones requieren precisión y ritmo. Pese a esto, se puede ralentizar la velocidad a la que bajan las notas. Quizás el modo Práctica sea asequible para la mayoría de instrumentos, y un poco más complejo para los que usen teclado por primera vez, ya que no se mueven en una interfaz de 5 o 6 botones, como la de la guitarra o la de la batería, sino que tienen dos octavas completas por las que moverse. Finalizar los niveles del Entrenador desbloqueará recompensas, como objetos para tus personajes que podrán usar en otros modos de juego.

MODO CARRERA: Aquí puedes diseñar a tus propios personajes y sesiones musicales con modelos de personajes mejorados mientras observa la historia que se va desvelando durante el juego. Veremos a los miembros de la banda yendo a una actuación en su furgoneta, ensayando y actuando. Incluso aparecen cuando eliges canciones para tocar. "Es una buena forma de sentirte siempre dentro de la narrativa, da igual el modo en el que estés. El juego entero es esencialmente la historia de tu banda."

Todo lo que hagamos en el juego, en cualquier modo, tiene recompensa en el modo Carrera. Los anteriores modos Carrera de RB se basaban en ser mejor rockero e invertir mucho tiempo. Éste es un modo Carrera completamente nuevo, desbloqueando recompensas como metas para mostrar tu progresión por el juego, y también para incentivarte a ser mejor. Hay cientos de objetivos, unos 800, a través de los instrumentos y los modos de juego y a través del contenido descargable. Un jugador va avanzando al superar retos, como tocar con todos los instrumentos en nivel Medio o haciendo un 100% en guitarra. Estos retos los puedes consultar en una lista que da el juego o ver cómo se desbloquean sólos a medida que juegas y cumples requisitos. Si ganas retos, ganas fans y teniendo cierto número de fans desbloqueas nuevos añadidos en el juego, como la furgoneta o poder ir a una nueva zona. Tú decides cómo acabas tu Carrera. Es una buena forma de acabar Rock Band a tu manera, basada en tu habilidad y no en una ruta de canciones predeterminada.

Con todo, sigue habiendo una historia, que va mostrando a tu banda desde sus inicios hasta el estrellato, pero la narrativa es ahora modular, se muestra según progresas y vas viendo escenas cada cierto tiempo. Hay incluso una escena donde ves al grupo estrujándose los sesos para ponerle nombre a la banda y a sus componentes xD

RETOS DE CARRETERA (Road Challenges): La idea es que la gente se divirta tocando junta y desbloqueando cosas, como cuando en los anteriores RB conseguías la furgoneta o desbloqueabas una nueva lista de canciones aleatorias, pero esta vez todo se ha dispuesto de forma que puedes acabarlas en una tarde y no en una semana. Los Road Challenges son un modo party que mezcla partidas rápidas con el modo Carrera de RB2, tocando en pequeños locales, grandes estadios o festivales al aire libre (estos últimos son novedad en Rock Band). Tienen duraciones muy diversas, según el reto y su dificultad, además del tiempo que tengáis tú y tus amigos para jugar. Que tenéis una tarde libre, pues podéis probar el Road Challenge de tres horitas xD aunque los hay de media hora, por ejemplo.

En cada reto tocas en una serie de giras en varias localizaciones y escenarios. Cada evento que completas te da picas, una por cada estrella que obtengas en las canciones, pero cada canción te da la oportunidad de conseguir picas de bonus. Estos bonus se consiguen a través de diferentes objetivos que te marcan. Algunos objetivos significativos explicados de forma detallada:

“Overdrive Overdose” Gana tu bonus gastando tanto Overdrive como puedas el máximo número de veces que seas capaz. No importa lo largo que sea el Overdrive, importa el número de veces que lo sueltes para ganar más bonus.
“Streakmania” Construye tu bonus con rachas de notas (o frases vocales) que consiga cualquier miembro del grupo. Rachas consecutivas incrementan el bonus de forma aún más rápida.
“Share the Spotlight” Los miembros del grupo se turnan para ser "el centro de atención." Cuando eres el centro de atención estás bajo presión para lograr una racha de notas o frases vocales. Conseguirlo pasa el foco a otro miembro del grupo. El bonus aumenta con cada miembro que logra pasar el turno a un compañero con éxito.
“All for One” Si todos los miembros tocan con gran precisión una sección de una canción el bonus se incrementa. Pero si uno falla no hay bonus y habrá que intentarlo de nuevo en la siguiente sección de la canción.
“Overdrive Streak” Aquí te recompensan por usar el Overdrive sin romper tu racha. Cuantas más notas o frases completes mientras se vacía el Overdrive mayor será el bonus.
“Overdrive Chain” Mantener el Overdrive el mayor tiempo posible. Los miembros del grupo deben encadenar Overdrives, uno tras otro (como el logro de mantenerlo 90 segundos en anteriores Rock Bands). Cadenas de Overdrives largas aumentan el bonus.

El objetivo de este modo de juego es inyectar variedad a una fórmula de juego ya conocida y vista. Pueden jugar de una a siete personas, centrándose la experiencia en retos donde tengas que formar un grupo de gente. En Harmonix creyeron que lo mejor para este tipo de juego era no introducir nuevos tipos de notas o power ups sino poner objetivos que profundicen en la jugabilidad. Unos retos enfatizan la presión en el jugador, otros el trabajo en equipo y la comunicación, otros te hacen pensar qué te viene mejor, si gastar overdrive o mantener una racha de notas... Aunque la experiencia es cooperativa se quiso que también hubiese pique sano entre los jugadores por ver quién lo hacía mejor, y de ahí salió la pantalla de estadísticas detalladas.

Cuando eliges una gira puedes decidir entre tres listas de canciones, así se ofrece variedad de canciones y flexibilidad en la dificultad. Hay una lista con temas de RB3, otra aleatoria con temas con algún criterio en común (género, década...) y otra lista con canciones que tú eliges, donde también deben tener algún criterio en común.

Lo bueno es que tus puntuaciones se almacenan mientras estás en este modo, como si tocases en Partida Rápida. De hecho, todo lo que haces en los Road Challenges tiene su seguimiento en el modo Carrera, y completando retos los completas también en la Carrera, desbloqueando nuevas ropas, instrumentos y vehículos. Las mejoras en los vehículos desbloquan retos más complicados.

MODO PRO: Este nuevo nivel de dificultad permite a los jugadores desarrollar fundamentos de música real para teclado, guitarra/bajo y bateria. Pese a ser un modo mucho más realista que el modo Experto al que estábamos habituados en anteriores títulos, el juego nos da la posibilidad de iniciarnos en el modo PRO con las variantes Fácil, Medio, Díficil y Experto, para ir progresando poco a poco con los rasgueos de guitarra, por ejemplo, y que no se nos atraganten todos de golpe sin saber cómo hacer o dónde poner las manos. Básicamente se sustituye las notas de colores por símbolos musicales reales, en un esfuerzo por hacer que los jugadores toquen de forma más fiel a la original. Este modo de juego se puede probar en práctica privada o con otros jugadores jugando los modos arcade de siempre. Puedes ser un pianista experto tocando con una banda de novatillos en fácil, no hay problema con eso. Si alguna vez quisite conectar de forma más real con la música, Rock Band 3 te va a gustar.

Para la guitarra y el bajo se requiere utilizar una de las nuevas guitarras con cuerdas (ver sección INSTRUMENTOS) con las que se pueden tocar desde notas sencillas a power chords y bar chords. También se pueden hacer tapeos y deslizamientos. Una serie de números caen por la pantalla, como si se tratasen de tablaturas, sobre seis cuerdas de guitarra, diciéndote donde poner tus manos en el mástil y cuando rasguear.

El bajo usa el mismo periférico que la guitarra para el modo PRO, y funciona igual, pero sólo muestra el número de cuerdas que el bajista original usó para la canción. Cuatro cuerdas para el bajo de cuatro cuerdas, a menos que el bajista utilizase un bajo de cinco o seis cuerdas en la canción.

Con la batería se añaden tres nuevos platos a los cuatro pads estándar y estás forzado a tocar el plato correcto en el momento justo. Se pasa así de tener 4 botones y el pedal a tener 7 y el bombo. Es mucho más inmersivo, te sientes como con un batería de verdad. TODO EL DLC que hay ahora, junto a las canciones incluidas en los juegos anteriores, están preparadas para distinguir notas de platos y de parches. Esto puedo haberse hecho en Rock Band 2, pero no se puso esa función ni se parcheó porque iba a estar en RB3 con los demás instrumentos. La batería de Guitar Hero no sirve para el modo PRO, hay diferencias fundamentales en términos de diseño de los parches y platos como para ser mapeados al modo PRO en esa batería. Pero funciona perfectamente en los modos estándar.

En el teclado se está usando actualmente el rango de dos octavas que tiene el periférico, se tocan las 25 teclas, con acordes de mano izquierda y derecha cubriendo las notas reales. Todo lo que tocas, sea en fácil o experto, es información musical detallada. La pista luce como una partitura de teclado real. Si después coges y te vas a tocar a un piano de verdad esas partituras sonarán igual.

Para los vocalistas todo se mantiene igual, aunque se ha añadido tecnología para ayudar a la gente a sonar mejor, por lo que hay pequeñas correcciones del tono.

Para aquellos que no tienen acceso a internet o no gustan de descargar contenidos, Harmonix pone a su disposición una serie de expansiones del juego que incluyen una pequeña selección de canciones de entre las disponibles para su descarga. Estas expansiones son perfectamente jugables sin necesidad de tener ninguno de los juegos principales, aunque también permiten, mediante un código de descarga que incluyen en el manual, descargar el mismo pack de canciones a nuestro disco duro y jugar con ellas en otros juegos de la saga principal. Las canciones descargables del juego tienen, por lo general, un precio de 80 o 160 puntos (algo menos de 1 y 1'5 euros respectivamente, aunque lo normal es que valgan 160 puntos) cada una. Algunas podrán venir en packs de descargas que valdrán, habitualmente, 440 puntos (5'5 euros) u 800 puntos (9,60 euros). El precio varía en función del número de canciones que incluya el pack, lo normal son packs de 3 temas, pero hay muchos con una cifra mayor de canciones. No hay packs con 2 canciones. Suele costar un poco menos comprar un pack entero que todas sus canciones sueltas.

Los álbumes enteros valen un poco más, dependiendo del número de canciones, como en el caso de "Screaming for Vengeance" de Judas Priest, que cuesta 1.200 puntos (unos 14 euros).

Con la llegada de Rock Band 3 se producen algunos cambios en las canciones descargables y sus precios:

El DLC actual, el que ya se vende o se obtiene de volcar las canciones de los juegos al disco duro, no tendrá funciones nuevas excepto el modo PRO (ver Sección de Modos de juego de Rock Band 3) en batería en todas las canciones y armonías en los temas de Green Day. No sube de precio ni requiere actualizar las canciones.

El DLC que salga a partir de RB3:

Por el precio de siempre, 160 puntos, te llevas la canción con los charts de los cinco instrumentos: micro (incluido armonías si las hay), batería (con modo PRO), teclado (con modo PRO), guitarra y bajo con la jugabilidad clásica de botones.

El modo PRO de guitarra/bajo se vende aparte, es como un add-on para esa canción, y vale 1 euro más, 80 puntos MS. Es decir, que si no tienes la guitarra de cuerdas ni te interesa comprarla, vas a pagar lo mismo que siempre y te llevas la versión normal de la canción. Y si la tienes o la compras más adelante, te bajas el añadido del chart PRO para guitarra/bajo pagando un poco más.

Un dato importante a saber es que se nos da la posibilidad de comprar temas sueltos de un pack o álbum, aquellos que más nos interesen, sin tener que pagar por el paquete entero si no nos gustan todos sus temas. La idea es confeccionar nuestra propia biblioteca con aquello que más nos guste, no pagando por cosas que no queramos. Es importante mirar bien qué compramos, ya que lo recomendable es explorar todas las secciones de la Tienda y ver si las canciones que queremos no forman todas parte de un mismo pack, ya que de ser así, nos saldría un poco más barato hacernos con el pack en lugar de los temas sueltos.

Y un último detalle crucial: los precios de muchas canciones están sujetos a promociones durante el primer mes de su publicación, costando en muchos casos 80 puntos en lugar de 160. Las listas que detallamos a continuación fueron confeccionadas con los precios que se dieron en el momento de su anuncio, de modo que si algo no coincide con el precio que luce en la tienda, o es error nuestro al anotarlo aquí o, lo más probable, la oferta a precio reducido de la/s canción/es ha finalizado.

Todas las semanas se publican nuevas canciones. En la 360 y Wii se cuelgan los martes y en PS3 los miércoles.

Las versiones Wii de los juegos Rock Band también incluyen funcionalidad total para la descarga de canciones, pero aquí se almacenan en tarjetas SD. Los precios son los mismos que en el resto de versiones, pero adaptados a puntos Nintendo: 100 o 200 puntos por canción. Con RB1 y RB2 en Wii no se vendían packs de canciones, sólo temas sueltos, pero eso cambia con RB3 y la consola de Nintendo tendrá packs de las canciones.

Harmonix ha anunciado que los temas que descarguemos en cualquier Rock Band podrán ser tocados en cualquier juego de la saga principal, sin necesidad de tener todos los juegos, ya que compartirán la misma tienda, lo que supone un gran acierto de cara a la comodidad que esto nos ofrece a los usuarios. Pero hay que matizar ciertas cosas:

- Rock Band 3: todo el DLC que salga a partir el lanzamiento de Rock Band 3 funcionará exclusivamente con este juego y no con los anteriores, pero RB3 puede reconocer TODO lo que ya ha sido publicado, tanto en la tienda como en otros juegos.
- The Beatles Rock Band tiene su propia tienda de canciones. Las canciones que compremos del cuarteto de Liverpool sólo son jugables en su propio juego debido a temas de licencias.
- Green Day Rock Band: es un caso parecido al de The Beatles, pero en esta ocasión el juego utiliza la tienda de los demás Rock Bands para la compra de temas del grupo, aunque el juego sólo reconoce las propias canciones de Green Day, no de otras bandas.
- LEGO Rock Band usa la tienda común de Rock Band, pero el juego sólo reconoce los temas de corte más familiar y amigable, sin palabras malsonantes ni violencia, dado que se dirige al público más pequeño de la casa.

Keytar y un modo profesional

Nuevos rumores en torno a Rock Band 3 apuntan a cuáles van a ser las principales novedades para la nueva entrega de esta saga musical: la introducción de un nuevo instrumento, el keytar, y un modo de juego profesional.

Un keytar (de "keyboard", teclado, y "guitar", guitarra) es un teclado o sintetizador relativamente ligero que se adapta a una correa alrededor del cuello y los hombros, de forma similar a una guitarra.

El accesorio, además, como el resto de instrumentos, correría a cargo de Mad Catz, según indica Ars Technica de acuerdo a fuentes internas no desveladas.

Igualmente, se habla de un modo de juego profesional que será mucho más técnico y se especula incluso que mucho más cercano a requerir las habilidades para tocar los instrumentos reales.

La movéis y ya poddéis situarla bajo la barbilla como es debido.

Imagine, de John Lennon, se suma a Rock Band 3

El álbum clásico de John Lennon, Imagine, llegará en forma de contenido descargable a Rock Band 3.

El disco se lanzó en 1971 y suma 10 temas, que estarán disponibles para ser descargadas. El single Imagine está, eso sí, en el juego desde el primer día.

Aconsejan a Activision hacerse con Rock Band

Doug Creutz, analista de Cowen and Company, ha aconsejado a Activision que compre la saga Rock Band, rival de Guitar Hero, que ya es propiedad de Activision. Rock Band es de Harmonix, pero fueron ellos también los creadores de Guitar Hero. En caso de que una compra no fuera posible, Creutz sugiere un acuerdo industrial conjunto con Viacom, propietaria de Rock Band.

"Creemos que la mejor opción en este momento sería acercarse a Viacom con la idea de fundir Guitar Hero y Rock Band a través de un acuerdo industrial conjunto", apunta el analista, en caso de que una compra no fuera posible.

Esto se debe a las ventas, por debajo de lo previsto, que ha registrado el último Guitar Hero, pese a su éxito entre la crítica, y que prevé que sucederá también con el inminente Rock Band. También podría haber afectado a DJ Hero 2.

Creutz defiende que el género musical está en recesión "hasta donde se encontraba antes de la explosión del fenómeno Guitar Hero."
